Exhibition/Workshop Announcement: The Mausoleum of Lost Objects

2–18 October 2008A collaborative project led by artist Matthew Krishanu exploring stories behind lost or stolen personal objects

Exhibition: 2-18 October 2008
Public workshop 1: 4 October 2008
Public workshop 2: 11 October 2008

Participants are invited to collaborate with artist Matthew Krishanu in workshops to recreate a lost object or personal belonging that holds particular significance for them. Schools, community groups and individuals of all ages are welcome to join the project.

The workshops will explore ideas about museum displays and commemorative objects - themes also explored in the concurrent exhibition at Rivington Place, The Kingdom of the Blind by Hew Locke. Participants will develop narratives about their lost objects, exploring associations and memories. They will then create artworks to commemorate and celebrate their objects working with materials such as audio recordings, drawings, collage, painting or sculpture.

The stories and artworks resulting from the workshops will contribute to a collective memorial in the education space at Rivington Place. Inspired by the idea of a mausoleum - a monument that commemorates the dead - it will be a compelling display infused with a collective sense of the past, of missing objects and reconstructed memories.
